Kofi Annan, the former UN secretary-general who won the Nobel Peace Prize for humanitarian work, has died aged 80, international diplomats say.

He "passed away peacefully on Saturday after a short illness", the foundation named after him said on Saturday.

Annan was the first black African to take up the role of the world's top diplomat, serving from 1997 to 2006.

He later served as the UN special envoy for Syria, leading efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.

In a statement announcing his death, the Kofi Annan Foundation described him as a "global statesman and deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world".

Plans have been perfected for additional 10 states of the north to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in no distance time, Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba has disclosed.
Danbaba, who is the Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, added that those reasons which Nigerians accused PDP of in 2014 that gave rise to the All Progressive Congress (APC) were now worse than the PDP era.
The lawmaker who recently defected to the PDP said his decision to dump the APC was determined by the people of his constituency.
While debunking insinuations that their decisions to dump the APC was for selfish gains, Danbaba said it was for the collective interest of Nigerians, hence according to him,   the APC led federal government has achieved none of its campaign promises despite the huge confidence Nigerians bestowed on her.
“We took our actions because none of the cardinal actions of our campaign promises as a party were in any way achieved despite people believed our campaigns then because of President Muhammadu Buhari’s integrity.
“But as it is today, Nigerians are safer in 2015 than now.  Our economy is worse now than before. Nigerian situation is getting worse by the day.
“Insecurity before 2015 was localised to a particular region. But now, it has gone viral to virtually all states of the federation.
“And despite we are sinking money into the security all in the name of fighting insecurity, yet we are not making any headway. Strategy has not being developed to address Nigerians’ security challenges”.
He further assured that their decision to dump the APC was for the survival of democracy, to guarantee professionalism, to correct the glaring lack of equity,  injustice  and lack of inclusiveness orchestrated by the APC led federal government.

Oshiomhole Moves To Halt Mass Defection From Edo APC

Uneasy calm weekend pervaded Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following dis-enchanment among leaders of the party in the state over what they described as Governor Godwin Obaseki’s seeming abandonment of the party’s loyalists after his election as governor.
There are however plans by the immediate past governor of the state and National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to hold an enlarged meeting with leaders of the party with a view to finding solution to the problem, this week.
It was learnt that the APC boss is scheduling the meeting following threats by majority of the leadership of the party across the three senatorial districts to defect to other opposition parties.
Oshiomhole, who was received by a mammoth crowd at the Benin Airport last Friday, the first time he was visiting the state after his emergence as National chairman of the APC, begged the waiting crowd to be calm, assuring that “I am aware of all your complaints but I can assure that you cannot be used and dumped”.
It was gathered that on arrival, APC leaders stormed Oshiomhole’s residence to inform him of how the party in the state had abandoned and humiliated them, even as they informed him of their plans to leave the party if he fails to call the governor to order.
A top party leader who confirmed the meeting said It will take place on Thursday this week, adding that “this meeting will shape the future of APC In Edo State, because everybody is tired and angry. Most people have remained in the party because of Oshiomhole who is our leader.
“He brought Obaseki to us to support him and now all he built is being destroyed by the government he put in place. So, we are hoping he will solve the problem so that APC will win this state in the next election and even in the governorship election in 2020”, the source stated.
Recall that a chieftain of the party in the state, Charles Idahosa, resigned form party activities last May over what he described as the attitude of the governor towards party leaders in the state.
Besides, a leader of the party  and former Council Chairman in Ikpoba Okha local government area, Mrs Itohan Osahon Ogbeide, last May also defected to the PDP.
Also, a former youth leader of the party in Edo South, Tony Adun, ciring a press conference criticized the policies and programmes of the Obaseki-led administration, citing marginalization  and neglect of party members who worked for the success of the APC in 2016.
He accused the governor of awarding contracts to his friends from Lagos State while indigenous contractors in the state were allegedly abandoned. He therefore warned that if those issues are not addressed, the party stands the risk of losing the next general elections in the state.

Ten aides of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State have tendered their resignation letters, barely two days after the former Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar resigned.

One of the former aides, Dr Abdullahi Zubairu Chula, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
Chula, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of his aggrieved colleagues, said their decision was informed by their desire to join their leader and former deputy governor of the state, Prof Hafiz Abubakar.
“We decided to resign because our leader, the former Deputy Governor, Prof Hafiz Abubakar has also left the government,” he said.
“We felt it necessary to leave this government because we cannot continue to stay in a government where our leaders felt threatened.
Chula, the Special Adviser on Non-Governmental organisation, said among those who also resigned are: Shamsu Aliyu Samanja  (Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs) and Alhaji Hafizu Bichi (Special Adviser attached to Deputy Governor’s office).
Others are: Dr Bakari Ado Hussaina (Special Adviser on Education), Alhaji Namoda-Birnin  (Special Adviser on Grave yard), Habibu Abubakar (Senior Special Assistant) and Idris Salisu Rogo (SSA attached to Deputy Governor’s office).
The rest are: Usman Kassim Bichi (Special Assistant to Deputy Governor on Education), Hafizu Alkali Jingau (PA at Deputy Governor’s office), Shamsu Kura (Special Adviser Media) and Rukayya Jibrin (Senior Special Assistant on Drug)

Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Charles Uwakwe, has been relieved of his position; Champion Scholar reports.
There has been no official statement on the reason for his sack but sources within the examination body believe that it is not unconnected to an alleged award of multimillion naira contracts without the approval of either the Federal Ministry of Education or the Governing Board of the Council.
It was learnt that Professor Uwakwe was sacked alongside two of his deputy directors whose names have so far not been made public.This development, according to sources, is coming two weeks after the Governing Council of NECO, led by its Chairman, Abubakar Sadiq, visited the Council during which he looked into its operations.
The visiting council allegedly observed that over 300 staff were “illegally” recruited by NECO under the watch of the sacked boss without clearance from the relevant Ministry of Education and the subsequent mandatory vacancy advertisements that ought to follow.
Uwakwe, a University of Ibadan don, was appointed Registrar of the examination body less than two years ago when the appointment of his predecessor, Professor Abdulrasheed Garba, was terminated.It was gathered that in the last three years, NECO had had its registrars changed four times. By the law establishing NECO, a registrar should last five years in office.
First, it was the sack of Professor Promise Okpala in February, 2015; followed by Professor Monday Thommy Joshua who, we gathered, spent only 50 days on the seat and was succeeded by Garba, who handed over to Uwakwe.
Meanwhile, the most senior director in the council, Alhaji Abubakar Gana has reportedly been directed to take over as acting registrar.Efforts at reaching the head of the council’s Public Affairs, Alhaji Azeez San, were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.

A rally for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari resulted into a free-for-all in Abuja on Tuesday.
Supporters of the President clashed over souvenirs.
Hundreds of youths had arrived at the Eagle Square, Federal Capital, Abuja, which was the venue of the rally.
Things seemed to be going smoothly with music blaring out of huge speakers when the situation suddenly turned awry.
Trouble started when the souvenirs being distributed by the organisers did not go round, resulting in a protest by those who felt short -changed.
Those who missed out on the souvenirs engaged their counterparts in a physical combat, which lasted for several minutes.
It was reported that as the unruly youths hit one another with sticks and fists, the few dignitaries at the event quickly dashed out of their seats and left the venue to avoid being caught in the chaos.
A number of the youths later left the square with torn shirts, swollen faces and bloodied noses.

Pastor of the “Fishers of Men Charismatic Church Isiokpo, Imo State has directed an 18-year-old girl, Udoye Blessing to marry him without her family’s consent. Raphael Udoye, the bride’s brother alleged that a friend of his, who also attends the same church as his sister, told him about it.
De Raph Man in a Facebook lamented how his sister was deceived “so-called Pastor”, calling the act a taboo. In a very lengthy post, he narrated how the church “Fishers of Men Charismatic Church Isiokpo, had planned the wedding since six months before and hid it from the girl’s family.

He wrote;

A 20-year-old Bristol University student identified as Omojola Ogundipe, took her own life in a Cardiff hotel room, just days after a visit home for Mother’s Day. Staff at the Citrus Hotel in Cardiff found her body hanging in her hotel room after she missed her check-out deadline.

The Late Omojola, described as “bright and bubbly”, was in the second year of her economics undergraduate degree at Bristol University, and was a leading member of the Gospel Choir Society.
A campaigner on environmental and human rights issues, she volunteered with several groups and was popular among her peers. An inquest into her death heard her dad tell Pontypridd Coroner’s Court his daughter had visited home just three days before they heard the tragic news.
During the court hearing on July 5, her dad, Kurle Ogundipe, said in a statement: “I last saw Omojola on March 11 when she returned home for the weekend. She appeared her usual bubbly self.”
He said the family were not aware of any ill health and did not think she suffered from depression or mental health problems.
However, Miss Ogundipe’s close friend, Hannah Agbeyegbe, in a written statement read out to the court, said: “She was an independent person. Quite private.
She didn’t really talk a lot about her personal life. It was around this time (when she moved to Bristol) that she disclosed to me that she was depressed and she had been having suicidal thoughts.” Summing up, coroner Christopher Woolley accepted the cause of death given by consultant pathologist Dr David Thomas at the University Hospital of Wales as death by hanging.

A 47-year-old man, Julius Ochim, who allegedly fathered his granddaughter by impregnating his daughter, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that Ochim, said to be a commercial motorcyclist, was arrested when his daughter reported at Shagamu Police Division that her father had been having carnal knowledge of her since 2009, shortly after her mother’s death.
The 21-year-old lady said that her father’s s3xual relationship with her resulted in pregnancy three years ago, and the birth of a girl.
The lady said that though her father stopped for some time, he started pestering her for s3x again about three weeks ago, which led to a quarrel because of her refusal to yield to his advances.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Shagamu Division, CSP Aduroja Moses, led the detectives to the residence of the man where he was promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it all on the devil’s handwork. He confessed that he started having problem with the girl when she started going out with another person,” the PPRO stated.
In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the suspect, who disclosed that he was from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, said: “It is true that I had s3x with my daughter, but that was in 2015. I had it with her only twice, and she got pregnant.
“I sent her to my brother in my village and we both agreed that she should tell the people at home that she was impregnated by a fellow student.
“I have four female children. My wife was also from my state before she died in 2009.”
Ochim however denied making an attempt to sleep with his daughter again, saying that he was only trying to stop her from dating one of the Yahoo Boys.

“She was always on phone and I noticed her following some guys who were into internet fraud. I tried to stop her by destroying the phone but she went to report me to our landlord,” he said.
The suspect admitted committing incest, but said: “I don’t even understand myself. It is the work of the devil.”
The lady, who also spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said: “My father started having s3xual relationship with me when I was 12 years old. That was when we returned from our village after my mother’s burial.
“What happened was that a young guy was caught trying to rape me, and my father’s pastor told him to teach me s3x education. But he turned it to another rthing, and since I was a young girl, I didn’t understand what he was doing.
“By the time I was about to finish from SSS3 class, I got pregnant for him.
“I went to my uncle in the village to deliver the baby and following the agreement I had with my father, I told my uncle that the student who impregnated me had gone out of the country.
“After delivery, I thought about all that happened and was disturbed. On my return three months after delivery, I told my father to stop what he was doing to me, and he stopped.
“But about three weeks ago, he made the moves to continue and I did not agree to it. I went to report him to our landlord. He got angry and smashed my phone on the floor.
“He is evading saying the truth if he said he was not the one who deflowered me. He started when we returned from our village after the burial of my mother.
“He is also being economical with the truth when he said I was dating a Yahoo guy. He never allowed any man around me.
“My father would not allow me to work, so I had to depend totally on him. But now that he is away, I can start looking for a job to do. I don’t want a case; I just wanted him to stop pestering me for s3x.”
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The Minister of Interior, Retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja in a statement issued by Dr. Mohammed Umar, the Permanent Secretary at the ministry.

While wishing Nigerians a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Dambazau enjoined the citizens to use the period to embrace the virtues of love and sacrifice for the unity and development of the country.

Atiku, who visited the palace of the Oba of Benin, and met the Oba and his chieves said Chief Igbe impacted a lot on him, when he trained him many years ago.

Minna—A syndicate, made up lecturers and students of College of Education, CoE, Minna, Niger State, that specialised in certificate forgery, has been uncovered. Already members of the syndicate, a lecturer and two students, have been arrested and handed over to the Police.

This came as two 300 level students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, IBBU, Lapai, Niger State, discovered to have gained admission into the university with forged certificates of COE have also been uncovered.

HY-BLOG  gathered that the syndicate had been operating in the college for the past 12 years before the scandal blew open.

The investigation revealed that some students of CoE Minna had succeeded in gaining admission into various universities across the country with forged certificates from CoE.

Contacted, Provost of the College, Professor Yakubu Auna, confirmed the existence of the syndicate, but vowed that others involved would be fished out and handed over to the Police for further investi-gation and prosecution.

Professor Auna said: “We have beamed our searchlight towards the root of the scandal and because of the zero tolerance this College has for examination malpractices and other related problems, some of those behind it have been arrested and others will also be fished out, dismissed and handed over to the Police.

“My administration will make the College inhabitable for those in the habit of issuing forged certificates to students, because I will continue to wage war against them. I have drawn a battle line with whoever is involved in the fraud, no matter his position in the institution.

“As we speak, I have got two students and one lecturer that are behind issuing forged certificates to students. The lecturer and students, after our own preliminary investigations, were handed over to the Police.

“The lecturer has spent one month in detention, while the two students were also detained for two weeks.”

The Provost added that the two students with the forged certificates were traced to IBBU, Lapai, after three years in the school, saying they were facing dismissal.

Some fans are not convinced though. They think it is a plan by Leo and Cee-C to get back at Tobi Bakre and Alexandra Asogwa, popular known as Alex. In the house it was the other way round. Alex was with Leo, while Cee-C was with Tobi.

 

As a result of that relationship, there has been war of words by fans of Cee-C and Alex on social media. The attacks have extended to the ex-housemates. The Next Edition learnt that Alex was attacked by a fan of Cee-C in Port Harcourt about two months ago for “snatching Tobi.”

 

In what seemed to be retaliation for that, it was alleged that a fan of Alex sent an email to Cee-C threatening to bath her with acid just to punish her.

 

Last week was full of drama as Cee-C posted a picture of a fan of Alex threatening to pour her acid if she does not call her fans to order.

 

The supposed fan alleged that Cee-C’s fans insulted Tobi and Alex everyday on their various social media platforms.

 

Cee-C screen grabbed the mail and posted on her Instagram live feed and captioned it,“Is this ever going to stop?”

 

In the mail, the alleged angry fan wrote:“Since you won’t tell your fellow bitter fans to stop trolling Alex and Tobi, I will teach you a lesson you will never forget in your miserable life.

“You are a bitter short witch. Tobi has moved on from you. You should do same. It is not by force. You pay people to troll them every day.  I know where you live and I will f–k you up. Be prepared. Anywhere I see you; I am going to pour acid on your face.

“As a scar, you will never forget in your life. I won’t kill you but I will bath your face with acid.”

 

What followed was mixed reactions from fans of all the names involved. To some of them she was right to have revealed the threat for the public to know. Some however, asked why she did not go to the police. Some others doubted the authenticity of it and called it a publicity stunt.

 

An instgram user with the handle @FaihtLola wrote “I watched BBNaija and I saw Cee-C’s attitude and her character. That girl was sick and she couldn’t bear the thought of losing someone she felt attached to. The way she spoke and stared at fellow housemates, she could kill with her eyes if it was possible. All of a sudden she has become an angel outside the house? People don’t change easily. Cee-C needs help. I think she made up that story just to make Alex look bad.”

 

Aside from fans’ reactions, some former housemates also aired their views. Leo took to twitter to assure his lover that no harm would befall her as Lagos is his hometown. He wrote: “You’re threatening child of grace in Lagos where one of her allies is a true Lagosian.”

 

Ifu Ennada also reacted. She made some revelations on her Instagram page. In her post, she said Alex and Cee-C are not in good terms and that all efforts to make them settle their differences proved abortive.

 

She wrote: “Sometime in Port Harcourt, about two months ago, a Cee-C’s fan verbally and physically attacked Alex. It was so bad that Alex was going to damn the public eyes watching and retaliate, but for intervention from Rico, I and Naomi – Alex’s manager who stopped her.

 

“I spoke with Cee-C to speak out to her fans but she didn’t. I also spoke to her about the possibility of making peace with Alex. Alex had told me Cee-C ignored her greeting with Rico being a witness. I asked Cee-C about this, but she dismissed it.

“We all don’t have to be friends, but we should all have respect for each other,” she said.

 

In the same vein, Princess, another housemate of BBNaija Double Wahala went all guns blazing by calling the acid bath threat “a publicity stunt” on Cee-C’s part.

 

Princess stated on her Instagram page that instead of coming to social media to report the threat, she should have taken it to law enforcement agencies. She then called on both Alex and Cee-C to make peace.

 

Part of her statement reads: “Get over this bad blood already! First of all if this is an actual threat and not a publicity stunt it should be sent to the law enforcement agencies and not social media because publicizing such threat in such an aloof manner would only fuel more imaginations of how best to carry out the plot. The fans of both parties are taking this way too seriously. The show was about 20 housemates not just three people.”

 

Cee-C later explained why she revealed the video after she was bashed by most people on social media. She said in an interview with Arise TV that she posted it on her Instagram page for her fans to know the ugliness that comes with fame.

 

She also slammed the publicity stunt claim by most people:  “If you want to go to Big Brother house, be ready. It is not about the glitz, people would threaten you.”

 

She later called for peace, by posting “The past is gone. Let it go! The future is promising! Work for it. Today is the best time to build the future. Stay focused.”

 

Some fans were not impressed with her reconciliation statement. “Cee-C will always be Cee-C. To me she is not calling for peace. She is encouraging herself to stay focused,” a fan with the handle @Ibijones tweeted.

 

As for Alex, she urged all the reality show stars to “let peace reign” and prayed for them to succeed in their different endeavours.

 

On her Instagram page, she appreciated all the Big Brother housemates by mentioning their names by their handles on the social media platform.

 

“I am not preaching friendship, all I preach is peace and love. Let love lead please. Before posting this, I damned advice and reactions. Turning off my data again today. Try take chill pills my loved ones. May God bless us all, in our different ways. We will all be successful in Jesus name. No competition at all.”

 

It remains to be seen if fans of Alex and Cee-C would sheath their swords in order for peace to reign.

 

With the developments so far, one cannot be wrong to conclude that the organizers of the BBNaija who themed it “Double Wahala” must have envisaged the amount of “wahala” that would ensue.  With one “wahala” in the house and another one outside of it, it is indeed “Double Wahala.”

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has told Senate President Bukola Saraki, that the only way he can avoid impeachment is if he resigns.

Oshiomhole stated this during a meeting with Senators and members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the APC, in Abuja on Tuesday.

He claimed that Saraki, after his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now a member of the minority in the Senate.

“Democracy teaches us that minority has the right to have their say but majority must have their way. So, if we have 56 senators and they have 49 senators, I insist that 49 senators cannot preside over the affairs of a House in which APC has 56 senators. And I ask them to tell us anywhere in the world where minority rules over majority.

“Often times, we take flights to Washington and other places to understudy the American presidential system of government. Once you lose majority, without further ado, you step down.

“Over and above all of these stories about illegal impeachment, let me restate that we cannot be subjected to minority rule in the Nigerian Senate and therefore, whether it is convenient for Distinguished Senator Saraki or not, the truth is whether by morality or by law or by convention, Saraki can only avoid impeachment by toeing the path of honour, step down so that APC can take over the leadership of the Senate.

“So, I want to repeat, Saraki as President of the Senate will be lawfully and democratically impeached. It will not be illegally done. It will be done according to law and tradition.

“Those lawyers who have chosen to sit as judges, need to be reminded that lawyers are at best, officers of the court and do not constitute the court. So, when Saraki is lawfully and democratically impeached, they will be free to go to anywhere they want to go and canvass the legality or the illegality of the action. It is not in their place to pronounce with finality as if they constitute the judicial arm of government,” Oshiomhole said.
