2019: Tinubu speaks on Ambode’s second term bid
Oluremi Tinubu, wife of national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, appears to have put to rest the speculation that the Tinubu political dynasty was against the reelection bid of governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state.
Mrs. Tinubu, who currently represents Lagos Central district in the Senate, yesterday assured the governor that his next term in office would be greater than his first.
This assurance came following reports that Ambode was no longer in the good books of Tinubu, which political watchers said might cost him his second term as governor as the national leader of APC had reportedly found an alternative to Ambode in the 2019 governorship election.
President Muhammadu Buhari, Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi; and Oba of Lagos , Rilwan Akiolu, were said to have embarked on a last-minute move to save Ambode.
However, speaking yesterday after a meeting in Lagos between the governor and the three senators representing the state in the National Assembly, Mrs Tinubu said: “Your excellency, my distinguished colleagues, I believe the leader of our delegation has spoken our minds.
“In addition to what he has said, we are proud of the work you have done and we are proud to identify with you. We can only wish divine health for you together with the first lady.
“As you continue to steer the ship of our noble state, you have done well. We see testimonies of how you really want to improve the lot of the common man. This is no where you will not find development. For those who say ‘Oh, development hasn’t come to us’ I say be patient.
“I want to congratulate you and pray that your next term in office will be greater than your first.”
